What is a head spa, and how is it different from a head massage?
By Dr. A · 7 Oct 2026
A head massage is hands on your scalp for a short time, often as part of a hair wash. A head spa is a full scalp ritual in a reclining wash chair: deep cleansing, warm water, pressure-point massage, a treatment and a blow-dry. At Sadai Haus a head spa takes 45–90 minutes and starts from ฿690.

What a head massage is, and when it is enough
A head massage, or scalp massage, is fingers and palms working the scalp until it loosens. Most salons keep it short, often ten to twenty minutes, or fold it into the shampoo. It suits you when you want a little calm without a long appointment.
At Sadai Haus the Relaxing Wash & Blow Dry already has a scalp massage built in: Wash · 5-min scalp massage · nourishing treatment · Dyson blow-dry. It is ฿250–450, depending on hair length.
What a head spa adds
A head spa is not just a longer head massage. The massage sits inside a whole scalp-care routine, done in a wash chair that reclines so you can switch off. This is the order of Sense of Calm (60 minutes); our longest programme, Sense of Ultimate (90 minutes), adds 3 more steps.
- Relax with calming music and aroma
- Head massage with acupressure to release tension
- Deep Scalp Detox — a deep, thorough scalp cleanse
- Two cleansing washes with Milk Shake organic shampoo
- Nourishing Milk Shake hair treatment
- Water Halo Spa — relax under a warm ring of water
- Premium hair oil to finish
- Blow-dry styling with the Dyson Supersonic™
What “Japanese head spa” means
“Japanese head spa” describes a format that began in Japan: lying back at a wash bed, a warm-water ritual at its heart, and the scalp as the main focus.
Sadai Haus is a Phuket salon in Koh Kaew that uses this format. We are not a Japanese brand. The products we use are Milk Shake, from Italy.
Which one to choose
Choose a head massage with a wash and blow-dry when you want clean, styled hair and a pleasant scalp massage without a long visit. Choose a head spa when the scalp itself is the point of the day, or when you want the full 45–90 minutes to lie back and switch off. If you are unsure which programme, the questions below help, or message us and ask.
Frequently asked
Is a head spa just a long head massage?
No. The pressure-point massage is one step among several. Sense of Calm has 8 steps: the rest are a deep scalp cleanse, two washes, a treatment, the Water Halo Spa and a Dyson blow-dry, all in one reclining wash chair.
Does the massage hurt? Can I change the pressure?
Yes, you can change it. Tell your therapist at any point if you want it lighter or firmer, and let us know before we start if your scalp is sensitive or you have allergies. A pressure-point massage should feel good, not painful.
Is a head spa for men too?
Yes. The ritual is about the scalp, not gender, and each head spa programme has one price whatever your hair length. Men and women, short hair and long, can book the same way.
Can I book only a scalp massage, without the full head spa?
Yes, in a way. We do not have a massage-only service, but the Relaxing Wash & Blow Dry includes a scalp massage (Wash · 5-min scalp massage · nourishing treatment · Dyson blow-dry). It is ฿250–450 depending on hair length, and it is a shorter, lighter option than a full head spa.
How do I choose between 45, 60 and 90 minutes?
Choose from three programs: Sense of Refresh, 45 minutes (7 steps, ฿690); Sense of Calm, 60 minutes (8 steps, ฿890); and Sense of Ultimate, 90 minutes (11 steps, ฿1,190).
